A Bit About SLO Creative Studio

SLO Creative Studio is a place where you can gather with a few friends… or just come play with me!  The focus is on creating with fabric — mostly sewing/quilting… but we also like to make fabric….  change fabric….  using dyes and paints and stamps and pretty much anything you want to try.

We are proud to be a Handi Quilter dealer!  We love HQ for a number of very important reasons.  First, they provide great support to dealers, which means that we can provide great support to our customers.  Their technical support team is absolutely amazing!  And the other first (because it’s every bit as important), they provide outstanding education for their products.  Their national educators are the best!  Their YouTube channel gives us (and you!) access to instructional videos on just about any quilting topic you can imagine.  And there are terrific Facebook groups that get frequent visits from HQ staff.

I prefer to teach you to use a machine before you commit to buy, and to have you spend some time renting time on our in-house longarm (currently a 20″ Amara).  Our rental longarm always includes a Pro-Stitcher and we encourage you to learn to use that, too!  During your time as a renter, you’ll start out needing lots of help and attention – and I’m here for that!  As you become more familiar with the machine and more comfortable with what you know, you’ll find that my interactions become more like, “let me know if you need help with that.”  And then there will be the day that you come in, load your quilt, and finish it without ever asking me for help with anything!  What a thrill!!

I especially like it when a renter decides to branch out to a custom skill that really challenges them.  Ruler work, custom free-motion or custom computerized — it’s all fun!

We have a very limited retail selection, primarily geared to the items you’ll need when you’re quilting here.  We offer a variety of batting  by the yard — 100% cotton, 100% wool, and 90% silk with a poly scrim (my favorite!).  We offer a limited variety of backing fabric (cotton primarily from Robert Kaufman Fabrics and Cuddle from Shannon Fabrics).

We proudly offer the best Aurifil collection on the Central Coast.  Lots of colors in a variety of thread weights.

And we indulge ourselves in fabrics from Frond Design Studio…. just because I love them and who wouldn’t want to share them??
